Unlocking Resilience
This morning, following the results of the 2024 election, was quiet and somber in DC. I needed to get outdoors, so I went for a run on the National Mall, where I stumbled into an unexpected moment of clarity. Between monuments honoring leaders who salvaged a fractured nation and silent memorials to global conflicts, I was reminded: we’ve been here many, many times before.
There are few certainties in this world, but one thing remains true: we will always find ourselves in periods of challenge and change.
Fortunately, humans are remarkably resilient. We have an instinct to endure, but we often need help unlocking that resilience. In tough times, we all seek stability and clarity.
That’s why, as leaders, it’s our role to offer confidence, agility, and community — to be an anchor for those around us. So, as you're sorting through your feelings and charting a course forward today, consider these questions:
How are you, really? What do you need from yourself and others to unlock your resilience? Don’t forget: put your oxygen mask on first.
In what small ways are you demonstrating calm and care for the folks around you? Little moments of humanity can go a long way when people feel unsettled.
What are you doing in bigger ways to build resilience and optimism? We have a responsibility to nurture the tenacity of those around us, preparing them for future challenges.
Remember, we’ve been here before, and we’ll get through it again.
